Company Directors

Eddie Smith, Managing Director
Eddie Smith’s formative work experience included a stint at Komatsu as an auto electrician, and it was during this time that he saw a niche in the market for quality product at reasonable prices. “The mining and construction environment is harsh and rugged, and the industry simply cannot afford sub-par quality, and even more it needs sound warranty back-up and technical support.” This is what Eddie Smith focused on, working from a small workshop and visiting sites with a 4x4 bakkie, as a one-man show, working 24/7. Trysome has fulfilled a dream, even though Eddie is quick to point out that it still has a long way to go. The awesome aspect of Trysome’s growth is that it has been self funded, with no financial assistance, and the success has been built on people, which Eddie describes as Trysome’s biggest asset. Add to this excellent customer and supplier relationships, an ethical and honest approach, the continual search for new product, and the principle of never resting on one’s laurels, and the end result is the awesome Trysome of today, with the ultimate dream of becoming a one-stop, single-source, auto-electrical supplier to the mining, construction, material handling, transport and light-duty automotive industries.

Riaan Jurgens, National Service Director

Riaan is an autoelectrician with extensive experience in earth-moving equipment.  Having joined Trysome in 1997, when it employed a mere 13 people, Riaan has been part of the phenomenal growth over the past decade, and now rubs shoulders with over 140 fellow employees. Riaan oversees a technical support team that has an overriding passion to sort out customer problems and to come up with solutions. Riaan describes his team as totally service orientated, and fanatical about quality; quality of work, quality of product, quality of people, and quality of supplier support. Riaan foresees a Trysome branch in every major centre in South Africa, as a logical conclusion of a philosophy to be wherever there is a need for Trysome’s services. The only obstacle to this goal is to find the right people. “To fly the Trysome flag, we must have the right people.”

Wayne Jeffrey, New Business Development Director
Wayne, a qualified auto electrician, took to sales like the proverbial duck to water, when he joined Trysome 11 years ago. Trysome was small at the time, but now Trysome services a growing client base of over 600 regular clients, providing niche markets with safety products and specialised auto-electrical components. Wayne’s future focus is to use his experience and product knowledge to develop new business and customer segments. Wayne is confident that Trysome’s ability to go out of their way to find the right solution for their customers, backed by suppliers with a similar attitude and relentless R&D on product, will take Trysome to new heights.
